| Homemade Hamburger Recipe – 2 Tasty Gourmet Hamburgers Jan 19th 2012, 04:58 Sometimes a hamburger is more than just a plain ole burger when some little twists are added to the traditional recipe. Turn your plain burger patty into a juicy, mouthwatering gourmet burger that can be savored with each bite. Believe it or not, gourmet burgers are easy to make and use ingredients that you can find in your kitchen cabinet or quickly at the store. What you’re actually doing is adding a few more herbs and spices to give the burger a very distinctive flavor. The recipes here represent different cultural influences that turn an ordinary burger into something very special. Easy Teriyaki Burgers In a small bowl, combine 1/2 cup of ketchup, 2 tablespoons of teriyaki sauce and 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper. Place 1 pound of ground beef into a large bowl. Add in 1/4 cup of the teriyaki sauce mixture to the ground beef and mix well. Shape into four 1/2-inch thick patties. Cover and cook patties over medium heat for 8 to 10 minutes until they reach a medium doneness. Turn patties over and brush on remaining teriyaki sauce while patties are still cooking. Remove patties from heat and place on buns. Add on lettuce, tomatoes and condiments. Pepper Burgers with Caramelized Onions Take 2 large yellow onions and slice them up to make 4 cups. In a large skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter until it sizzles; add in the sliced onions. Cook onions over medium heat (35 – 40 minutes); stirring occasionally until they’re tender and a deep golden brown color. Stir in 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme leaves, 1 teaspoon white wine vinegar, 1/4 teaspoon coarsely ground pepper and 1/8 teaspoon of salt. Continue cooking onions, while stirring occasionally, until the onions become caramelized (about 5 more minutes). In a large bowl, add in 1 1/2 pounds of lean ground beef, 2 tablespoons of stone ground mustard and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Mix lightly then shape into four 3/4-inch thick patties. Coat both sites of patties with 2 teaspoons of coarsely ground pepper. Cook hamburger patties until they reach desired doneness, turning once while cooking. Toast 4 hamburger buns and place patties on each. Top each hamburger with 1/4 cup of caramelized onions. | |

| Are You Getting in Your Own Way? (A Marketing Insensitive) Jan 19th 2012, 08:57 If you are not seeing the sales and marketing results that you desire you might want to take a hard look at your communication style for both spoken and written communications. You could be getting in your own way. Think about your goal in every communication you have with a prospect or customer. Then look at how you communicate with that prospect or customer. Are you getting the looked for results? Recently I offered a series of free teleseminars. My goals for the teleseminars were to help attendees with difficult prospecting issues and to introduce a new product, “Cold Calling College.” As an incentive to purchase the product I offered a one-day only discount (standard marketing procedure.) Here is an e-mail that I received from one of the participants: “Dear Wendy, “I thought the concepts on the cold calling telecall today were valid, however, somewhat rudimentary for me. I would consider purchasing ‘Cold Calling College’ for the scripts…. my Area Director is in Prague [so] I cannot get approval until next Monday. To get the approval I will need to sell its value as being more advanced than what I have thus far seen. Considering these factors… I would like to request that the discount still be offered to me next week.” It was fascinating that this participant e-mailed to request a favor, an extension on the deadline to purchase the product, yet she chose to start out her request by disparaging the teleclass and the offer. Hmmm… She’s getting in her own way. I did not take this personally. Actually, I found it to be rather amusing. We have sold many, many copies of “Cold Calling College” and will continue to do so. One sale more or less will not make or break us. I replied with a polite e-mail that the deadline to purchase was midnight that night and could not be extended. In thinking about this communication I wondered had she sent a different e-mail would I have been more inclined to grant her request? How could this participant have changed her communication to make it more likely to get a positive response? Let’s see… It’s always a good idea to start out a request with an acknowledgement. It puts the recipient in a good frame of mind. It is also important to tell the truth. The issue here would be for this participant to find something she could acknowledge. How about this: “Dear Wendy, “Thank you for taking the time to offer this free teleclass.” This is the truth. The class was free. It took some of my time. This was a statement the participant could easily have made without compromising her feelings about the class. Next, outline the problem in a positive manner, again always telling the truth. In the original e-mail this participant said, “I would consider purchasing ‘Cold Calling College’ for the scripts… my Area Director is in Prague [so] I cannot get approval until next Monday.” (The subtext of this sentence is that there is nothing important in the product except for the scripts.) How about this instead: “I’m interested in purchasing ‘Cold Calling College,’ but I need to get my manager’s approval to do so. She is in Prague until next week.” This approach is much softer and is also true. She did have some interest in purchasing “Cold Calling College.” In this approach she is not promising to buy, she is simply expressing interest in a positive manner. She did not have to minimize the value of the product to make this request. Next this participant said, “I will need to sell its value as being more advanced than what I have thus far seen.” This is totally unnecessary information for the recipient, it’s also rather insulting. She should have skipped this sentence altogether. Then ask for what you want. It is also a good idea to acknowledge that your request is out of the ordinary. “Would you be good enough to give me an extension on the deadline?” Had this participant followed this outline, I might very well have granted her the extension she requested. Think about every communication that you have with a prospect or customer. Ask yourself, “What is my goal?” Then ask yourself, “What is the best way to frame this communication so that I get the desired result?” Ask yourself, “How might my prospect or customer react to my words?” Asking yourself these questions before you communicate with a prospect or customer will keep you from getting in your own way. It will help you to create easy, stress-free communications. It will also help you get the results you desire. | |

| Online Degrees and Financial Aid Jan 19th 2012, 15:57 Online education Online education is a very popular area of interest these days. There are several reason why this subject has drawn so much attention but for good reason. As technology advances students are subjected to more effective means of obtaining education and retaining the information they learn. Online education has brought success to many people from all walks of life the only prerequisites is a computer, internet access, and a willingness to learn. College education is a field which includes financial aid, accelerated courses, online assignments and test, online books, daily requirements, and most of all graduation. Financial aid Getting money to pay for college is said to be one of the most frightening things a student experiences while contemplating college. Most students who attend college are using financial aid which is provided by the federal government yet there is a small percentage of students who pay out of pocket and an even smaller percentage students who pay for college expenses by grants and scholarships. All regionally accredited schools are approved to offer their students financial aid to pay for classes and resources like books and dorm expenses. A list of schools who accept financial aid as payment are listed on the department of education website. Financial aid is a combination of three resources Pell Grant, Student Loans, and Scholarships. When a student fills out a financial aid packet from FAFSA website the application will be review to determine if the student is eligible for Pell Grant, Student Loans, and Scholarships; the student only needs to completely fill out and submit the form. After the student submits the online financial aid application the student will receive an email stating the student’s application status; when the student is approved the student will receive a letter of approval from the department of education. Financial aid is not based off of credit nor is a credit report pulled when a student applies, the qualification for financial aid are based off of how old the student is, how much money the student makes per year, if the student is current on their taxes, and the students citizen status. The financial aid department of the student’s school will inform the student if the student is approved for financial aid and how much the student will be receiving. The student will be informed how much Pell grant, student loans, and scholarships the student is approved for per year; the student must reapply for financial aid each year. The student will have the option of accepting or rejecting the financial aid after the student has been approved for financial aid; for example, if the student is approved for Pell grant and student loans then the student can reject the student loans and keep the Pell grant to pay classes. When the student has decided how much of the financial aid the student will use the financial aid department will total the cost of school per year and give the student the remainder of the financial aid; for example, if the student receives 10,000 for financial aid per year but the cost of school per year is only 4,000 the student receives the remaining 6,000 in the form of a check or a direct deposit depending on the institution. The excess money not used to pay for class can be used for living expenses or to purchase products/services which will support academics. Assignments Online education is convenient yet successful because online institution are required by the department of education to challenge online students as equal to traditional students who attend a classroom. Two ways the students are being challenged online is by improving their memory and interactive skills by requiring the students to write papers weekly and interact with fellow classmates. The same process happens at a traditional brick and mortar college in the sense the students are required to attend class and participate in a lecture by listening to the lesson and commenting on the lesson in the form of a dialogue. When a student attends class online the students repeats this same process daily by logging into the virtual classroom, reading the lesson of the day, and commenting on the lesson. At the end of the week the student is normally required to submit a 750-1000 word essay which amounts to about 3-5 pages worth of writing. Depending on the online institution, students are required to write one written assignment per week and also comment on 2-5 fellow student’s comments. The greatest thing about online is the convenience, the students are able to see when and what time they submitted their assignments and what remaining assignments they have left for the week. When the students assignments are graded the grades are posted in a visible area of the virtual classroom.
