Retire Rich – Retire to France
Jan 7th 2012, 08:53

One issue of major concern to each and every one of us is whether we will be able to afford to retire when the time comes.. It’s not so much a case of us worrying about having no money in the bank at all and no pension whatsoever, it’s more a case of whether what we will have to look after us financially in retirement will actually stretch to cover our preferred standard of living – because the cost of living and the price of real estate in the world seem to be ever increasing. Well, the good news is that if you want to retire rich you should retire to France. Why? Because not only is France rich in heritage, history, culture and class, it is a nation with a wealth of retirement lifestyle options that are very affordable indeed meaning that with only a relatively small pot of money to see your through retirement you can actually retire to France and enjoy an exceptionally opulent standard of living. Your money will go further in France because the climate in the south of the nation is just so perfect year round. You have mild and relatively dry winters which will cut down on your heating bills and you have stunning sun kissed summers meaning that France is a great country to live in for the weather. The stunning sunny summer days means that France is also a nation rich in terms of its agriculture industry – this means that the nation produces excellent food and wine which is available from local farmer’s markets and individual vendors for a fraction of the price you would pay for such exquisite cuisine in your supermarkets back home. You can retire rich in France in terms of your day to day quality of life too – because geographically the nation is stunning so you can travel France on a low budget and just take in its natural delights. And what’s more, many of the country’s monuments and mansions, sites of historical interest and museums and galleries are free for you to enjoy. France is also highly and cheaply accessible. It has over 450 airports across the country with cheap flight operators flying in from across the globe. Additionally the road and rail networks in France are superior and well maintained so you can get anywhere and everywhere for a low cost…again, this helps retirement income go far further. And finally you can buy or rent property in France away from the main cities, towns and holiday resorts for a fraction of the price you would pay for real estate in America, Great Britain or elsewhere in Northern America or Western Europe – so if you want to ensure you will retire rich all you have to do is retire to France!

The Many Stories of the Spoonmaker’s Diamond
Jan 7th 2012, 10:27

The Spoonmaker's Diamond, also known as the Kasikci, is the most valued exhibit of the Topkapi Palace Museum. The Topkapi Palace Museum is one of the most famous treasuries in the word. Inside of its walls are ancient maces, daggers, pendants, book covers, chests, rings, and various other ancient artifacts, studded, encrusted, and artfully decorated with beautiful stones. The Spoonmaker's Diamond rests prized among these. This 86 carat (17 g) non conflict diamond is cut in a pear shape and surrounded by a cluster of forty nine smaller, brilliant-cut diamonds. It has been compared to the curved dipper of a spoon (which might be the origin of its name) and a full moon, illuminating a bright sky full of stars. Though there are several legends as to where the Spoonmaker Diamond came from, its true origins and how it got to the Topkapi Palace are unknown. Sultan Mehmet IV also had a diamond called the Spoonmaker's Diamond, but it was set in a ring and weighed much less than the similarly named gemstone in the Topkapi Palace. One of the origin myths of the Spoonmaker's Diamond starts with a poor fisherman, wandering around Istanbul, penniless and empty handed. He finds a brilliantly shining stone amongst the piles of garbage. Unsure of what the stone was, but recognizing it as beautiful, he stores it in his pocket for a few days before going to a jeweler's market-this was before the days of IGI appraisals. The fisherman shows his rock to the first jeweler he comes across. The jeweler recognizes it as an extremely valuable diamond, but feigns disinterest. He gives it a cursory glance-over and states that it is just a hunk of glass, but he is willing to give the fisherman three spoons for his trouble, out of sympathy. The fisherman agrees, and walks away from the deal feeling better off. In a slightly different version of the story, an impoverished man named Rashid finds the diamond in 1699 while scouring the Istanbul garbage dumps. He haggled with a spoonmaker and manages to get three wooden spoons in exchange for the shiny rock. The spoonmaker, recognizing the gem as valuable but not realizing that it was worth a fortune, sells it to a jeweler for ten silver coins. The jeweler examines the diamond with a friend, and they soon discover its true value, one of the best value diamonds they have ever seen. They argue a bit over what to do, but eventually decide to sell it to another jeweler. They each get a bag of gold out of the deal. Before the third jeweler can sell the diamond, Grand Vizier Ahmed Pasha hears of its presence and confiscates it. The Spoonmaker's Diamond soon passes into the hands of Sultan Mehmed IV. The story put together by researchers and historians is much different. A French officer named Pigot purchased the diamond in 1774 from Maharajah of Madras. He brought it back home with him to France, but was robbed by thieves. The diamond disappeared, and didn't resurface until Casanova bought the diamond in an auction. The diamond passed hands and ended up in another auction, where Napoleon's mother bought it. She wore it frequently, but when Napoleon went into exile, she put it up for sale in order to support him. A man who worked for Tepedeleni Ali Pasha bought the diamond from her and presented it to Pasha. Later, during the reign of Mahmud II, Pasha was killed under charges of rebellion and treason. His treasury, including the Pigot Diamond, was confiscated by the state. The treasury records describe the Pigot Diamond as having a mass of 86 carats, the same as the Spoonmaker's Diamond. Conclusions have been reached that the Pigot Diamond is one and the same as the Spoonmaker's Diamond. It is still unsure if the Spoonmaker's Diamond was cast with the forty nine brilliant cut diamonds by Mahmud II's men or Tepedeleni Ali Pasha's men. However, they increase its dazzling appearance as well as its market value.

Home Improvement On A Budget
Jan 7th 2012, 13:42

Home improvement projects do not have to be taxing on the wallet. The key to approaching home improvement from a money saving standpoint is to take your time and do the majority of the work yourself. If you’re looking for a way to spruce up your home without draining your bank, here are some great suggestions. Take classes to learn tips and tricks for home improvement that you can do yourself. Many home improvement stores routinely offer classes that break down the steps in an easy manner than can quickly be learned by the most novice of weekend warriors. The classes are focused on teaching you how to do many projects yourself and show you just how simple it is to do the many basics of home improvement. Do the work yourself. One of the biggest expenses in any home improvement project is wages. So instead of hiring an outside company to complete the easier tasks, do as much of the work as possible yourself. You will be surprised how much of your home improvement budget will be saved with a little elbow grease. Enlist the help of family and friends. Let them know that you really need their help for a limited amount of time. You’ll be amazed at how many people will help you if you take the time to explain why you need the help. They might think that there’s nothing they can do to help you, but having an extra hand to move furniture, or fix holes in the wall before you paint, can make all the difference in the world. Let them know that even small things are helpful. Know when a project is too big for you. If you want to tile your kitchen floor, include how much it will cost you to buy and rent the necessary supplies before you begin your project. If you can do it without renting expensive equipment, the cost will stay within your home improvement budget. If you need to rent a tile cutter for a few weeks, it may be cheaper to hire someone else to do the work for you. When trying to complete home improvement projects on a budget, money matters. Save money by learning how to complete the basic steps yourself, ask for help when you need it and hire an outside contractor when the overhead costs are just not within the home improvement budget.

Shanghai Surprise
Which Country Will Be The Largest Economy In The World?
Jan 7th 2012, 14:30

Currently, the United States is the top economic power in the world, followed by Japan, Germany, China and France, respectively. Will another nation eventually overtake the U.S. in this role? It has been speculated by some that China is destined to take the top spot in terms of economic GDP if it can continue its bustling double digit economic growth. This is possible, but there are several factors to consider. A double digit growth rate generally only happens to a younger, growing economy. When a national economy matures, it generally settles into a 2-3% annual GDP growth rate. That is about what we see in the U.S. and many western European nations, for example. In recent years Ireland grew at a double digit growth rate but has since settled to a more modest growth rate. The same may happen with China. Obviously, if it can continue such a high growth rate it will eventually overtake the U.S in this regard, but it will have to maintain this rate for some time. Since the U.S. economy is larger to begin with, China and other rival economies must sustain a considerable larger GDP growth margin in order to catch up. But there are other factors involved as well. One is current trend of trade blocks, such as that of NAFTA. If you were to include Canada (a member of the Group of Eight leading Industrialized economies) with a huge economy in it’s own right), Mexico (nearly ninety million consumers and very rich in natural resources such as Oil, Gold and Silver), and the various Central American nations which are seeking membership, this bloc would me much more difficult to catch up to in terms of market size and total GDP. In addition, there is a push in some circles for the FTAA (Free Trade Area of the Americas) which may one day include all nations in North and South America. For that matter, the combined European Union is already a much larger economy than that of the U.S. The EU has some 450 million highly educated consumers compared to about 300 million in the United States, and it is adding new countries at swift pace. In any case, it should be noted that a number of top economists predicted back in the 1970′s that both Japan and the Soviet Union would overtake the U.S. economy. This of course did not happen, due to bank mismanagement in the former case and political dismantling in the latter. As i write this article, Yahoo news reported that ‘China’s stock market plummeted from record highs as investors took profits when concerns arose that the Chinese government may try to temper its ballooning economy by raising interest rates again or reducing more of the money available for lending.. The Shanghai Composite Index tumbled 8.8 percent to close at 2,771.79, its biggest decline since it fell 8.9 percent on Feb. 18, 1997. Since Chinese share prices doubled last year as investors poured money into the market after the completion of shareholding reforms, trading in Shanghai has been very volatile.’ It is certainly possible that China could eventually be the top economy, but wise economic policies will probably be a biggest long term factor of whether or not this occurs.

How Can a Sauna Help You in Getting Rid of Acne?
Jan 7th 2012, 14:45

Sauna is a wonderful and healthy solution to many of seemingly difficult health problems. Sauna helps not just in relaxing but also has certain amount of curative quality that can benefit health totally. One of the uses of a sauna is to get better skin. Sauna can actually help you in getting rid of acne. Acne is the skin problem many men and women suffer from. Yet there has not been any foot proof remedy found against acne. Acne is more predominant among women. This is because women have more delicate skin. It is a well known fact that women go through more hormonal changes than men; one of the causes of acne is hormonal changes. Acne occurs predominantly on face, shoulders, breasts, arms and back. Acne occurs at any age. There are different types of acne. Acne is because of: Hormonal changes during puberty; Hormonal changes during menopause; Lack of hygiene Temporary acne during or around period; Over secretion of oil by skin glands; No sweat secretion; Unhealthy diet, etc.; Though sauna cannot be the only and most perfect remedy for acne, it can prove to be quite effective when combined with other efforts like proper diet, exercise routine, etc. Sauna involves vapors (dry sauna does not) which can cleanse your skin thoroughly. Your skin will feel alive and breathing after a sauna. At the same time, sauna warms up your body causing you to sweat, thus opening pores that helps in cleansing. Sauna is a Finnish concept. For best health results, try and take a sauna bath at least once a week. You can also use a foldable sauna inside your home, if you do not have this facility any where near your vicinity. However, it is important that you feel comfortable inside a sauna. A too hot or cold sauna will not prove to be effective at all.

A Fantastic Carp Fishing Holiday in France at Etang Du Vivier, France
Jan 7th 2012, 22:20

We arrived Saturday morning to a nice sunny day, the fish were moving around all over the lake and we took a good look round and decided to fish as 3 groups of pairs. Jason and Phil opted for the beach, Damon and Bill fancied the platforms and my Dad and I jumped in the tin hut swim. After setting up the bivvies and getting everything sorted we got the rods out and started to bait some areas, I decided to fish the same areas I fished in my short May 2 nighter as they seemed a good place to start so with 2 baits along the margin to my left and one slightly further out to the right off the baited area, a mixture of boilies, partiblend and pellets were spooned out and my Dad got to work with spodding his open water area to my right, the weather was hot and we were soon ready for dinner and a sleep… the fish had other ideas! My middle rod was the first to go and the first fish of the session was in the net, only 17lb but good to get the first one under the belt… back out with the baited rig, which was a short flourocarbon stiff link with a snowman presentation and another half a bucket of bait was deposited around the area. During the night I was rewarded with a 22lb common and a 23lb mirror. Sunday was overcast and warm and the fish were in feeding mode and I started off with a double, then a 26lb 8oz then the first thirty at 30lb 2oz… well chuffed! Buzzers were starting to go off all round the lake and everyone was catching well including a nice 38lb for Jason. Throughout the day I accounted for another 8 carp including another thity at 31lb 6oz and a nice 34lb 8oz for my Dad amongst others. Monday it started to rain a bit but the fish still kept coming and I took 7 more fish to mid twenties then Tuesday the action slowed a little for me but I still managed 4 carp to 29lb 12oz and the action started thick and fast for my Dad as the fish moved onto his heavily baited area and he quickly took 6 fish to 38lb. Jason and Phil decided to move down to the middle swim between the islands and the dam wall swim opposite me and were catching fish from the off including a huge rake of 20s and a couple of 30s for Jason and Damon and Bill were now catching well too after a move to the shallows topped by a 36lb mirror. We all started to up the baiting and the fish were responding well coming from spots only heavily baited hal
