Shopping For Antiques in England – English Antiques
Jan 2nd 2012, 17:04

Shopping for antiques in England can be very frustrating if you don’t know where to go. Since London is by far the most visited city in England, nearly everyone wants to start here. Unless you have deep pockets, this definitely would not be at the top of my list. But since many visitors never leave London, I will give a quick over view. If you want a more detailed list of shopping London, there are entire books dedicated to shopping antiques in London. My favorite is the world famous Portobello antique market which is held every Saturday. This is just a fun place to be on a Saturday morning, and you will see some things here that you probably will not see any where else. You might even find a bargain if you are lucky. There are more “smalls” here than furniture. Many of the other weekly markets have nearly disappeared because of new construction. Of course there are some of the finest antique stores in all of England here, but if you are looking for deals, this is not the place to be. My sleeper for London, would be to check out the stores along Lilly Road. Get one of the famous London black cabs to take you there. In general, if there are lots of tourists in an area, it will not be a place to find bargains. Now that you know where NOT to shop, where can someone go to find affordable antiques? Yes, there are still plenty of antiques at reasonable prices. And as I write this in November,2008, the exchange rate for dollars to pounds is the best it has been in five years. There ar a couple of towns south of London where I love to shop. The first is Lewes, which is built along a river. There is not real high end shopping here, but you can usually find something in one of several antique malls. The other town is Arundel, which can easily be reached by train from London. There is also a nice castle here. Be sure to visit Spencer Swaffert Antiques, considered by some as the best antique store in England. The Cotswolds are another favorite area for tourists. The best town here is Tetbury, where the main street of town is full of stores and small malls. Another town not too far away is Stow-on-the wold, which also has many stores. There are a couple of other towns in the area, but you can pick up a brochure at nearly all of the stores that will give directions. I have saved the best for last. Nearly all antiques dealers go to the giant antiques fairs of Swinderby and Newark held in Lincolnshire every two months. There are roughly 2500 dealers selling at each of these (some do both). They are both held the same week. These are a must. Check internet for exact dates and details.

Holidays in Vosges, Lorraine, France
Jan 3rd 2012, 14:30

In the province of Lorraine, northeast France, Vosges takes its name from the Vosges Mountains on its border. It offers a landscape of unparalleled natural beauty and appeals especially to tourists of winter sports. The historical background and culture of Vosges can be accessed easily due to the abundance of castles, churches, monasteries, and museums. With a rich local history, it is the site of the Battle of the Vosges – first in 1794 then again during both World Wars; and was home to Joan of Arc herself back in 1412. The Vosges Mountains Divided into northern and southern ranges, the Vosges Mountains attract many winter sports fans and tourists, the majority of whom opt to visit the southern range. These contrast to the unspoilt northern range and are more popular due to their being lower and offering the opportunity to find a route through several medieval villages. The tallest mountain is the Grand Ballon, and at 1,424 metres high it offers spectacular views across to the Alps. Rainfall in the mountains makes its way either east to the North Sea via the Rhine, or west to the Mediterranean via the Rhone. Epinal South of Nancy on the Moselle River, Epinal is the capital of Vosges and is best known for the Imagerie d’Épinal, a local printing company whose unique products are still manufactured there to this day. Epinal itself has a very interesting local history – if you visit on the 9th of September, legend has it that you may see Napoleon Bonaparte’s ghost on patrol at 5am. He is said to return here each year, as it is the site of his first and last orations. Things to Do There is no shortage of things to do in Vosges including hiking, skiing, horse riding and nature watching; it is the perfect resort for those who love the outdoors. Well-marked trails for walkers and biking along the Zorn canal are popular choices. Beneath the Monts Faucilles is a selection of thermal spas. Created of course by the Romans, the health benefits of visiting the spas are said to be unrivalled due to the increased levels of calcium and magnesium – said to help liver, kidney, cardio-vascular and rheumatic problems along with rheumatism and obesity. Aside from the health benefits, it offers a relaxing and interesting way to spend an afternoon.

Sedation Dentistry: Eliminate Your Fear of Dentists
Jan 3rd 2012, 20:26

Dentist, oral health – what comes to mind when these words are mentioned? It has been depicted on television that there are people who feel fear when they hear these words; some are mild, some to the point that they become hysterical. They put up with pain rather than to go to a dentist. This fear can affect adults as well as children. To further understand this fear, researchers categorize them into three. Some studies show that some people who are afraid of going to the dentist just have a fear of the unknown. Others really have a dental fear. They have rational reasons for refusing dental care. At the extreme end, there are those who actually have a phobia. This case is far more serious than just the aforementioned cases. For the first mentioned case, there are patients who just haven’t gone to a dentist for a long time. What they don’t realize is that there has been so much change in the technology of dental work. Dentists and their practices have also changed. These changes aid in helping patients and dentists to manage a patient’s fear and minimize their anxiety. With the fear being categorized, dentists can now understand more easily how to approach a patient and give them proper care. A skilled sedation dentist allows patients to receive safe and effective dental care. Sedation dentistry elevates their ability to tolerate the dental procedures especially for those who really have a hard time dealing with their dental fear. A patient searching North Carolina dentistry practices may need to choose a sedation dentist if they are: experiencing trouble in feeling numb during dental procedures, people who have previous distressing experiences with a dentist, fear being ridiculed because of a long period of dental disregard, people who have a sensitive gag reflex, and those in need of multiple procedures or a relatively longer procedure in one session. These five cases do not really limit who can have sedation dentistry. Are you looking for a NC dentist? At Friendly Dentistry, they offer a type of sedation dentistry that utilizes a medication called Trialozam. It is a derivative of Valium and has been in used safely and effectively for years. The process is not very complicated. The patient takes one pill before arrival at the office. Before starting the dental procedure, the patient is connected to a monitor. The patient’s blood pressure, pulse and blood oxygen levels are recorded during the procedure. This way, it is determined if the patient is relaxed enough or whether additional sedative is necessary. The services of Dr. Clark & Dr. Ribando at Friendly Dentistry can be a good choice for all your dental needs. Aside from sedation dentistry, they also offer a wide range of services like restorative dentistry if you need fillings, cosmetic dentistry if you need veneers for teeth, and a lot more.

All About Online Degrees
Jan 3rd 2012, 23:37

Online degrees are degrees acquired via the Internet. Many existing colleges and universities have online degree programs, also known as “Distance Learning” available in various fields of majors and subjects. Distance learning has become very popular due to the availability, flexibility and affordability. This method of learning has become designed for people who cannot attend class on a campus, or for people who may have children to tend to all hours of a day. If a student is taking courses on-line it means that he or she will be learning on their own time by reading course material, working on course activities, writing assignments and perhaps working with other students through an interactive web conference. This method of learning enables people to pursue their education at their own speed and schedule. Full-time classes do not require as much effort and time and money are saved in commuting. For payment of these classes, scholarships and financial aid are available. Federal student aid started out as being ineligible for online degree programs unless the majority of a student’s classes were campus-based. This law has recently been appealed and is available for students. Most institutions will give students different loan options to compare and may be able to educate students on consolidating any outstanding loans they may already have. Some technology skills are required for online learning. For example, a mother may resort to an online degree if she cannot afford a babysitter. She may never have had any computer training, which can affect her ability to enroll a class that would require a web conference. The recognition of quality of online degrees varies because of these situations. There are different types of technologies used in online learning. There is a “synchronous” technology that delivers a class when all pupils are present at the same time, for what can be considered a web conference. “Asynchronous” technology is the opposite in which the student gathers all information and materials on their own schedule. People question online learning because when a student is required to complete assignments and testing, it is hard to control cheating. The students lack a teacher to monitor testing outside of the classroom. For some schools, the answer to this requires that a student take an exam in a controlled setting, usually held at the school. The public perception of online degrees is argued that certain fields of study may be more acceptable than another. While this is disputed, class instruction may be the exact same whether lectured in class or online. There may be no special designation for one or the other. Every school has advisors and counselors designed to help fulfill a students needs. These advisors can help determine whether or not online learning is a good fit for each and every individual student.

Lake Garda for School Sports Tours – The Legacy of San Siro
Jan 4th 2012, 04:32

School sports tours are a great way to push your team’s boundaries and give them a taste of international competition, as well as a unique opportunity to learn about the sporting culture and history of your destination. If you are a schoolteacher or team coach planning a tour for your football team, Lake Garda in Italy has to be one of the most appealing destinations available. Not only will there be excellent facilities and the chance to play exciting international games, but your students will be able to visit San Siro stadium, which will provide an impressive sporting history lesson. It also boasts the only museum within a stadium in Italy. The History of San Siro Stadium Students on school sports tours who are familiar with the teams and traditions of their own country will have a chance to learn some Italian football history. Construction of the San Siro stadium started in 1925, at the bequest of AC Milan president Piero Pirelli. He wanted a 35000-capacity stadium dedicated to football – a unique and grandly ambitious project for its time. It was inaugurated in 1926 with a game between Inter Milan and AC Milan, with Inter winning 6-3. The first of many expansions and renovations was initiated in 1935, when the capacity was increased to 55,000. Up until this time it had belonged to AC Milan, but in 1947 it also played host to Inter’s matches, subsequently being shared by the two teams and also sometimes being used by the Italian national team. It became the iconic heart of football in the area – popularly known as the ‘temple of soccer’. Other renovations were carried out for important events, most famously for the 1990 World Cup. This saw the stadium become all-seated with a slicker, futuristic design and the concrete towers you can see today were added for structural support. While it has always been known for football, San Siro also hosted the Rugby Union international between Italy and New Zealand in 2009 – making it of interest to school sports tours for rugby as well as football teams. It continues to host high-octane matches every Sunday for thousands of supporters. The San Siro Museum Celebrating its position as Italy’s first museum inside a sports stadium, the exhibitions illuminate the history of both AC Milan and Inter Milan – the teams that share the stadium. Using uniforms, trophies, footballs, photos, artworks and other memorabilia, this museum offers a glimpse into a long legacy. This sporting heritage is brought to life by guided tours of both the museum and stadium, by guides with all sorts of interesting facts to keep students on school sports tours fascinated.

Prague Places
Airplanes
Jan 4th 2012, 07:42

I’ve been flying airplanes since I was born minimum once a year with my parents. Of course as a passenger, but I have a dream at least once in my life to fly a plane or a helicopter as a pilot. That is a dream of many children born in a Soviet Union and most of them of course were thrown by the life far away from this dream, but if I’d manage it once – that would be a dream in my life that came true. Once I’ve been flying with some East-European airline company from Frankfurt to one city in East Europe and there was a time when due to some misunderstandings between that airline company and Frankfurt airport management or something like this – there were no direct flights from Frankfurt to my destination. And I had to take a plane to Prague and from Prague – with the airplane of that East-European airline to my destination. To that moment of time these were some propeller-driven machines bought already used from some other airlines and those were sometimes apparently old ones. So, my another regular flight, about 20 passengers on board, one stewardess, and two pilots. Everything seems to be alright, I’ve been flying since my childhood and I’m feeling good, lucky to see my friends in a couple of hours, we drive to the runway, approval for the flight is received, what I can hear through the open door of the pilot cabin. Strange, isn’t it? I am not sure about the international flight regulations but the the cabin door I think must be closed during the flight.. So we start running along the runway, and after we have climbed about 50 meters, the plane suddenly takes almost vertical position and we start climbing like a jet warplane. And that is all with the open cabin door and without panic, as if it was a quite normal takeoff. After I think 5 seconds of such maneuvers we were climbing normally, just as usual. I took a glance around me to see the reaction of the other passengers on that, but everybody was quite calm. The funniest thing was that those 2 stunt-pilots have started the descent the same way. And again everything was appreciated nice and easy by the passengers. Do you know that the hardest thing in any flight is? It is the landing. To take a plane off wouldn’t take much. Fly the route and make some turns or even some more complicated maneuvers is also not a great task. But the landing is that very same period where a small mistake can lead to catastrophe. A great pilot, of course if the weather conditions are good and it is daytime, would land a huge airliner or small Cessna so that you barely notice it. But not all pilots can do that. Maybe, if you were flying, you have noticed that in some countries, maybe in your also, there is a custom to applause to the pilots after the successful landing. I, as a Soviet-grown one, didn’t know about this custom till my first flight to Europe. After some time I’ve had the opportunity to try out for some hours the Microsoft Flight Simulator, where as told by many specialists, the process of piloting is more close to the reality than ever. Guess how many landing attempts I’ve made on the simplest Cessna before I managed it without crashing the plane? About a dozen! Actually, one should not be afraid of flying, because international statistic tells us that from automobile catastrophes lots of people are dying every day and airplane crashes are not quite a frequent stories. So it is relatively more safe to fly rather than to drive or use any other land-transport. But if you think of it from another point of view – that if in the air something goes wrong – a chance to survive is fast zero. Because when you hear from the news that an airplane is down, you usually hear the amount of dead passengers and not the percentage of those who survived and those who did not. And when we think about the land-transport, we believe that the catastrophes is going to be recognizable at least some seconds before it happens and you will be able to act to get escaped. Of course, it is all the matter of luck and destiny and one should decide on his own. But surely, those who never flied, should definitely try this out. Have a nice flight with all the airlines of the world.
